Eating Disorder Dietitian and Therapist
Alice Baker MSRD CEDS-S CBT®P LMHC LPC LD/N has over 25 years’ experience in the field of Eating Disorders and has served clients with eating disorders through the full spectrum of care from inpatient to outpatient. Alice currently sees clients in private practice as a dietitian and/or therapist, facilitates support groups, presents locally and nationally, and supervises new dietitians in the eating disorder field.
Alice has served in many roles including Nutrition Supervisor at Remuda Ranch Eating Disorder Treatment Center, Nutrition Spokesperson to both Wake Forest and Moses Cone Hospitals, and Pediatric Trainer. Through these roles and experiences, her passion grew to help individuals and families develop a healthy relationship with food and experience the positive impact of grounded nutrition. Joyful Nutrition was created in 2005 to do just that.
Alice has seen and believes in the power of joining forces with other treatment professionals to provide higher levels of care and support.
She has done this through:
- Developing and monitoring the IOP nutrition component for The Eating Disorder Recovery Center of Florida.
- Developing the nutrition component for the eating disorders program at The Recovery Village.
- Developing and directing True Image Care, a biblically based Eating Disorder ministry.
- Co-facilitating groups with local counseling centers on topics such as eating disorder recovery, eating disorder family support, intuitive eating, and health at every size.
As an expert in her field, Alice regularly presents both locally and nationally on the topic of Eating Disorders. As an iaedp™ Approved Supervisor, she also provides supervision to dietitians seeking to obtain Certified Eating Disorder Specialist status and who want to grow and learn in this rewarding field.
Throughout, her passion grew to walk with others as they looked at the underlying wounds of the heart that drove Eating Disorder Behaviors. Alice decided to do just that, headed back to school, obtained her Master’s in Counseling, and obtained status as Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona. In 2017, she founded Courageous Hearts Counseling, a faith based, clinically sound, save haven dedicated to coming alongside men and women as they bravely enter their stories, the wounds they have experienced, the self-protective responses they have developed to survive, and new ways to love and be loved.
Alice’s specialties include Eating Disorders, Parent coaching, Trauma, and Family of Origin Wounds. She uses a core attachment theory that just as relationships can harm, they can heal as well. Drawing on evidenced based, holistic therapies such as, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Narrative, she gently comes alongside individuals on their healing path. Alice is a Certified Body Trust® Provider, a Certified Invitation to Change Provider, and has completed The Allender Center Level 1 and Level 2 Training Certificate Program which is focused on engaging stories of trauma. She incorporates both these powerful and healing modalities in her work.
